1985 Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns Middleweight Championship WOW

This fight was called "The War" and "The Fight" by its promoter, Bob Arum, and Ring Magazine later dubbed it, "The most electrifying 8 minutes ever!" Check out this detailed article about it in The Sweet Science. It was April 15, 1985 at Caesar's Palace, refereed by Richard Steele and announced by, I am sure, long time Vegas ring announcer Chuck Hull who used to fill me on all the boxing gossip when he'd make his twice-annual trip to the Whale's Tail in Ventura where I was bartender for 7 years.

I was a huge boxing fan during the 1980's, and my favorite fighter was Marvin Hagler -- this here is the complete fight Middleweight championship fight between Hagler and Hearns in 1985 -- both were at the top of their game, Hagler was the defending and undefeated champion, Hearns previous fight was the one he knocked out Roberto Duran cold, the only time EVER Duran was knocked out in his 100+ fight career (you hear me, Sugar Ray Dancing Queen Leonard? )-- The fight doesn't last long -- the first round is brutal and furious -- Hearns breaks his right hand on Hagler's head, and Hagler was rocked because Hearns had a hell of a right in those days - but it doesn't have to be long to be one of the greatest fights ever fought -- you will see no Sugar Ray Leonard running for cover type of BS here, no Roberto Duran 'no mas no mas -- you will just see two unbelievably talented and strong fighters who, oh by the way, have the hearts of lions -- toe to toe from the first bell to the final moment when Hearns hit the canvas -- watch!

1983 Philadelphia 76ers Championship

This one gives me goosebumps -- I guess it's hearing the voice of someone I was privileged to call friend, Chick Hearn, saying the words, "there he goes, Mo Cheeks on his way to the world championship" -- it brings back all those awesome memories of being a Sixer fan living on the west coast, of going to the Laker games a few times a year and knowing even then that Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Wilkes, Coop etc were a special bunch -- even though I "hated" them -- and remembering how Malone predicted how the playoffs were going to go fo', fo', fo' -- when asked -- he was only off by one game to Milwaukee, otherwise it was total domination over the Celtics and Lakers -- how SWEET that was! Funny, this one makes me miss California and miss Chick (who let me try on the Lakers Championship ring that Kareem presented him at half-court, but that's another story and I'll find a video of it) and miss his wife Marge too -- there years they do fly bye! Hopefully someday the Sixers will rise again!

2009 Syracuse Lacrosse NCAA Championship

One of the few teams that hasn't left me waiting for decades and decades is the great Syracuse Orange lacrosse squad -- they win them often -- more often than anyone else as a matter of fact -- and they currently hold back to back championships. But this one -- ohhh, this one was magical, amazing, and entirely unlikely -- which makes it my favorite. Down one point to Cornell with only a few seconds to go it was looking like the boys were done for....and then ....the magic.

1998 and 1999 Denver Broncos Superbowl Wins!

No need to describe how long-suffering we Bronco fans were when finally --- FINALLY the mighty Broncos, and the heroic big 'John Wayne' Elway, rode the dauntless back and legs of one great Terrell Davis into football immortality....finally

1998 Super Bowl XXXII vs. Farve's Green Bay Packers

1999 Superbowl XXXIII vs Dan Reeves' Atlanta Falcons

Syracuse Orange Hoops Win 2003 NCAA National Championship!

This moment was one I had waited for since the 1960's, coming close but no cigar because of that damned Keith Smart jump shot for Indiana in 1987, and again when the Orange fell just a few points short of the heavily-favored Kentucky in 1996 -- I loved that team that year and still love those guys to this day -- yesssssssssssss!

This is the corny video that makes me misty-eyed....

....and this is footage of the National Championship game against Kansas.

1974 Flyers Win Stanley Cup

Oh HELL yeah! It's grainy on video, but crystal clear in my mind -- look at the players, in those great and glorious days before we all turned into a helmet-clad society of whiners and candy-asses. Ahh, the year the bullies won it all --- how sweet it still is!

1969 Miracle Mets!

What's not to love?  One of the most enjoyable sports memories of my childhood!
